Full face motorcycle helmets usually costs less than $50 but some helmets are expensive especially the ones having unique patterns or them. In the same way customized motorcycle helmets are way more expensive than ordinary motorcycle helmets. The main purpose of buying a helmet is to protect head even if the helmet itself gets broken but still there are various ways you can increase the life of a motorcycle helmet.
Keep it in Bag
Majority of the manufacturers provide a storage bag made of a special fabric along with the motorcycle helmet. This bag is given for storage purposes but you and I know very well that no one uses this bag for this specific purpose. Instead, we store other things in it and keep the motorcycle helmet with the motorcycle. Most of the people put the safety strap of a motorcycle helmet in the handle of the motorbike just to save time as no one has enough time to put helmet in bag and take it out after every use but the truth is that this completely ruins the motorcycle helmet especially its exterior as thin layer of dust covers it. Some people keep motorcycle and its helmet in an open place where it remain exposed to extreme weather conditions. Sunrays destroy the color of motorcycle helmet making it look old within a matter of days. So, it is highly suggested keeping motorcycle helmet in a bag when not in use in order to increase its useful life.
Keep it Dry
Accept it or not but we have this stupid rather ugly habit of throwing helmet off our head after we come back home and after that we do not know where it is and in which condition it is. Weather is unpredictable. Sometimes, our motorcycle helmet gets wet not just from outside but also from inside due to rain fall or dew drops keeps on falling on the helmet making it wet. We must dry the helmet before wearing it but our busy routine does not allow us to do so. Do you know that we sweat a lot while riding a motorcycle especially in summers when weather is hot? This makes interior wet so it must be dried using a dryer or anything else in order to increase its useful life.
Wash it regularly
Do you remember when the last time you washed your motorcycle helmet was? Almost all the motorcycle helmets currently available in the market can easily be washed. In fact, you can separate the parts of these helmets for washing purposes. Our helmet if not washed regularly can act as a perfect transmitter of germs and bacteria as it remain exposed to extreme weather conditions all the times so it is highly suggested washing your motorcycle helmet regularly. It will also increase its useful life.
Important Note: Though, the above mentioned tips will be helpful in increasing the useful life of a motorcycle helmet yet it is better to buy a good quality helmet that is reliable and durable. DOT approved helmets are good in this regard.
